iPhone 16: What to Expect?

The launch of Apple's new iPhone 16 models is just around the corner! At WWDC in June, Apple unveiled the latest range of iPhones, which will be released in September. In this blog, we take you through all the new features, different sizes, updated design and advanced AI applications in iOS 18. Read on for all the details and more!

iPhone 16 released date

Although Apple has not yet announced an official release date, it is easy to predict. Historically, Apple almost always presents its new smartphones on a Tuesday or Wednesday in the first two weeks of September, with pre-orders usually starting on the Friday in the same week. Therefore, we expect Apple to unveil the iPhone 16 on Sept. 2, 3, 10 or 11, with pre-orders starting on Friday, Sept. 13 or Friday, Sept. 20.

iPhone 15 Series vs. iPhone 16 Series

The iPhone 16 promises to have improvements over its predecessor in several areas. Here are the main differences between the iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 models:

Screen size

Apple insider "Sonny Dickson" has shared photos of the upcoming iPhone 16 models. These show that the Pro models will have larger screens compared to the iPhone 15 Pro, while the non-Pro models will keep the same screen size. The iPhone 15 Pro has a 6.1-inch (15.5 cm) screen, while the iPhone 16 Pro appears to get a 6.3-inch (16 cm) screen. The iPhone 15 Pro Max has a 6.7-inch (17 cm) screen, and the iPhone 16 Pro Max is believed to get a 6.9-inch (17.53 cm) screen. So the iPhone 16 Pro screens would be 0.2 inches (0.5 cm) larger if the rumors are true.

Thinner edges

Thanks to new edge texturing technology, the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max are expected to be even thinner than the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, resulting in a slimmer design with fewer bezels.

Screen brightness

Thanks to micro-lens technology, the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max screens are expected to be 20% brighter, with a peak brightness of 1,200 nits, making a big difference. In addition, this technology allows for more efficient power consumption, resulting in longer battery life and less frequent charging.

New recording button

The iPhone 16 will introduce a new record button that allows users to take photos and videos with a single tap. This button, according to rumors, will also make it possible to quickly record spatial videos for the Apple Vision Pro.

New color options

In addition to the existing colors of the iPhone 15 (yellow, blue, black, green and pink), rumors are circulating that the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus may also be available in white and purple. Details about the colors of the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max are not yet known.

A18 Chip

All iPhone 16 models will get the new A18 chip, with the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max possibly featuring a more powerful A18 Pro chip for improved AI functionality.

Solution to problems with overheating

Many users complained last year about their iPhone 15 overheating on first use. According to Apple insider Kosutami, this problem is now being addressed by a thermal graphene system for the iPhone 16.

Wi-Fi and battery

For the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max, an improved Wi-Fi chip will be developed with support for Wi-Fi 7, while the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will feature Wi-Fi 6E, similar to the current standard in the iPhone 15 Pro. There are rumors that the iPhone 16 will use stacked battery technology, a technology also used in electric cars. This would lead to an enlarged battery capacity, resulting in faster charging times and improved higher-capacity wireless charging capabilities.

Camera-upgrades

The iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max are expected to have a 48 MP ultra-wide camera, which is a significant improvement over the 12 MP ultra-wide camera on the iPhone 15 Pro.
