How do you identify a Samsung model?

Some repair technicians may not be aware that you can no longer identify a Samsung model by the code on the flex cable. While this was possible in the past, it no longer applies today. But how can you identify a Samsung model? In this blog, we will clarify this.

The old method

It used to be simple to identify a Samsung model, as the code was on the flex cable. This code corresponded to a specific model. However, this method is no longer reliable. This is because most flex cables are now used for multiple devices, saving costs on production and design. As a result, even older cables can be used for newer models, which sometimes makes it confusing to determine which model you are fixing. Fortunately, there are other methods to figure this out.

The new method

There are several methods to check the model, but most are not always clear. For example, the A137 model has an orange line on the flex cable, while the A135 does not. Sometimes the code is on the motherboard, but this is also not always the case with every phone. With the A12, you can tell by the placement of the camera. Luckily, there are also some obvious ways to identify a Samsung model:

  • Read the model code from the phone's settings.
  • In some cases, this code is on the backplate.
  • On the box of the phone.
  • You can enter the IMEI number at imei.info

Conclusion

Repairers may not correctly identify certain Samsung models because of modifications Samsung has made. This can lead to ordering parts for a different model. Fortunately, this can be easily avoided by checking the model code in the phone's settings, looking on the back plate, checking the device's box, or entering the IMEI number on imei.info.
